The Foundation for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) is hosting a silent auction of Paralympic memorabilia to raise money for rehabilitation research.
The event, entitled "Tribute to the Paralympics: Silent auction and a walk through Paralympic history", is due to take place in the San Diego Convention Centre from November 13 to 15.
Among the available items are the brightly coloured jackets Paralympians wore at the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, watches from the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing and Paralympic branded gym bags.
Funds raised from the auction, which is being held in conjunction with the American Academy of PM&R Annual Assembly, will be used for research into the best techniques and interventions to help individuals with disability participate in the activities of daily living.
PM&R, or physiatry, is the medical speciality that focuses on restoring health, improving function, minimising pain and enhancing quality of life for individuals with disability.
PM&R doctors help individuals with disability participate in sports from grassroots level all the way up to the elite international competitive arena of the Paralympics.
Donations are also being solicited at the event.
