The double Olympic gold medallist triumphed in the 500 metres time trial and flying lap to move level with the overnight leader, Jolien D'Hoore of Belgium, before winning the final sprint of the points race on the line to claim the gold medal.

The 22-year-old finished on 199 points, one clear of runner-up D'Hoore and 32 points ahead of Germany's Anna Knauer in an event that was the first to offer Olympic qualifying points for Rio 2016.

There was further success for Britain in the women's individual pursuit as Katie Archibald posted a time of 3min 40.136sec to fend off the challenges of Germany's Mieke Kroger and Lithuania's Vilija Sereikaitė, who crossed the line in second and third respectively.

Austria's Andreas Graf and Andreas Muller, Belgium's Kenny Deketele and Otto Vergaerde and France's Vivien Brisse and Morgan Kneisky, made up the top three in the madison.
