The Cayman Islands Postal Service has released a set of stamps commemorating the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games ©CIPSThe Cayman Islands Postal Service (CIPS) has launched a new set of stamps in commemoration of the territory's participation at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The seven stamps represent each of the sports that the islands' athletes competed in this year, with the KYD0.20 (£0.15/$0.24/€0.19) stamp featuring a cyclist, the KYD0.25 (£0.19/$0.30/€0.24) a swimmer, the KYD0.75 (£0.57/$0.91/€0.72) a boxer, the KYD0.80 (£0.61/$0.98/€0.77) a squash player, the KYD1 (£0.76/$1.22/€0.97) a shooter, the KYD1.60 (£1.22/$1.95/€1.55) a gymnast and the KYD2 (£1.52/$2.44/€1.93) an athlete throwing a javelin.

The First Day Cover has all seven stamps and features cyclist Michele Smith, who was also the Cayman Islands' Flagbearer at the Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony.

The Commonwealth Games athletes, which, as well as Smith, include sprinter Kemar Hyman, boxer Tafari Ebanks, gymnast Bethany Dikau and swimmer Lara Butler, are due to be at the Airport Post Office, Grand Cayman on Saturday (October 11) to celebrate the launch of the stamps and to sign First Day Covers.

After apologising for the delay in releasing the stamps Assistant Postmaster General for Marketing, Tara Bush, said: "Nevertheless, we are hoping that our collectors and the sporting community will be interested in this seven stamp series, which commemorates the Commonwealth Games."

The Cayman Islands was represented by 28 athletes at this year's Games - its largest squad since first appearing at the event at Edmonton 1978 - but came home empty handed after failing to win any medals.
