The suspension takes effect immediately and will stay in place until elections have been organised to the "entire satisfaction" of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

The membership rights of the FTB will be suspended during this period, while officials, boxers and coaches related to the nation will not be entitled to participate in any boxing competition at any level.

The decision was initially made at the AIBA Executive Committee meeting held in July but has now been reaffirmed following exchanges of correspondence between AIBA and the FTB.

In all, five Tunisian boxers competed at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games but none of them were able to get beyond the quarterfinal stage of their respective events.

The line-up comprised of three males - lightweight Ahmed Mejri and light welterweights Abderrazak Houya and Yahia Elmekachari - and two females - flyweight Maroua Rahali and lightweight Rim Jouini.

Tunisian boxers have won two Olympic medals, Habib Galhia claiming a bronze in the light welterweight at Tokyo 1964 and Fethi Missaoui in the same category at Atlanta 1996.

The country has only ever won one medal in the World Championships, a bronze for Rim Jouini in the women's lightweight division in Barbados in 2010.
