Turkey are performing well as the host nation ©Getty ImagesHosts Turkey won for the second day in a row at the International Basketball Federation World Championship for Women to clinch top spot in Group B and a place in the quarter-finals.

The Turks followed up their 50-48 triumph over France with a 55-44 win over Canada in Ankara as Lara Sanders finished with 18 points.

France, who claimed an emphatic 89-45 victory over Mozambique, are due to face Canada in a battle for second place on Tuesday (September 30).

In Group D, the United States secured first place after a hard-fought 94-74 win against Serbia in Istanbul.

Serbia only trailed 67-64 with 81 seconds remaining in the third quarter, before the US turned on the style in the fourth.

The Eastern European nation will now go up against China, who eliminated Angola from the tournament after a 65-39 win, in a fight for the runners-up position.

Spain and the Czech Republic will square off for Group A supremacy after both made it two wins out of two in Ankara.

Alba Torrens and Sancho Lyttle each scored 15 points for the Spaniards as they hammered Brazil 83-56, while the Czechs came from behind to defeat Japan 71-57.

Brazil meet Japan in the final round of group games with third place and a spot in the qualifications for the quarter-finals at stake.

In Group C, Australia thumped South Korea 87-54 in Istanbul to set up a showdown with Belarus, who came back from 69-58 behind with 3:19 remaining to win against Cuba, for first place.

Cuba will take on South Korea for the right to play in the quarter-final qualifiers.
