Nine Iranian athletes climbed Damavand Mountain to mark the IPC's 25th anniversary ©Iran NPCNine Iranian disability athletes have scaled Mount Damavand to reach its 5,671 metre-high summit in celebration of the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) 25th anniversary.

The event, arranged by the Iran National Paralympic Committee, saw the climbers, all with varying impairments including amputees and cerebral palsy athletes, battling cold and windy weather on their ascent.

They stopped for one night to rest when they reached 4,250m.

When they reached the summit, the athletes held a special ceremony to congratulate members of the Paralympic Movement and unveiled a flag celebrating the IPC's silver jubilee, which took place on September 22.

The flag is now set to be presented to the IPC at the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games, which is due to take place from October 18 to 24, by Ali Rabiei, Iran's Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.

Celebrations marking the IPC's 25th anniversary have been taking place across the global Paralympic Movement, and will conclude when the body hosts a special gala dinner and strategic conference in Berlin early next month.
