Sweden have secured a semi-final spot in Budapest with a win and a draw at the IBSA Goalball European Championships ©Kalocsai RichárdDenmark and Sweden have secured the first semi-final places in the women's competition at the International Blind Sports Federation Goalball European Championships Men & Women B after impressive performances in Budapest.

The second day of action in the Hungarian capital saw Sweden's women continue their superb showing by following up two wins yesterday by overcoming Greece 3-0 and drawing 3-3 with Great Britain, despite having a chance to take the win but missing a penalty in the dying seconds.

Those results puts them top of the sole women's group and guarantees a semi-final berth, where they will be joined by Scandinavian rivals Denmark.

The Danes recovered from an opening day 5-0 defeat to the Swedes by registering wins against Belgium, 5-3, and a 2-0 win over Greece.

Despite those two defeats, the Greeks remain on course to secure a place in the last four along with hosts Hungary, who picked up two vital wins against Great Britain and Belgium.

Meanwhile on the men's side, Israel made it four wins from four to remain the team to beat in Pool A after crushing victories over Portugal and a 13-3 thrashing of Poland.

The Israelis are virtually assured of a place in the next round, with Ukraine trailing them by six points in the standings as they came out on top of their battle with Russia on a scoreline of 12-7.

Russia also went down 6-1 to Portugal, who picked up their first win of the Championships.

In Pool B, things are much tighter with Sweden and Slovenia locked on seven points apiece.

Slovenia began the day's action by registering a 7-3 win over host nation Hungary, before following that up with an 11-8 win over Italy in a high-quality contest.

The disappointment continued for the Hungarians as they went down 8-2 to Sweden, who followed up their opening day win over Denmark.

The Danes handed out Italy's second defeat on the day, securing a 9-5 win.

The action in Budapest continues through until Sunday (September 28).
