Samsung will support the Jordanian delegation at Incheon 2014 ©JOCJordan has received a welcome boost shortly before the Opening Ceremony of Incheon 2014 with the news that Olympic TOP sponsor Samsung will support the Arab nation for the duration of the Games.

A 156-strong Jordanian team is set to compete in the 12 different sports of football, basketball, taekwondo, karate, boxing, triathlon, cycling, judo, squash, wushu, wrestling and weightlifting.

They will be hoping to improve upon their six-medal haul four years ago in Guangzhou, where the team won two gold medals courtesy of under 80 kilogram taekwondo player Nabil Hassan and over 68kg karate star, Manar Shath.

It is hoped the Samsung deal will assist and bring greater exposure to the athletes, and, as part of the partnership, five team members have been selected as the "faces" of Team Jordan and Samsung Electronics Levant, working together as "Team Samsung".

"This partnership with Samsung Electronics Levant marks a new direction for the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) following the launch of our new Living Sport initiative earlier this year," said JOC Secretary General, Lana Al Jaghbeer.

"One of the key elements to Living Sport is making the JOC, and sport in general, more accessible and marketable.

"For a company the size and with the reputation of Samsung to recognise this is a massive boost to our continuing efforts to make sport and healthy living integral to the lives of all Jordanians."

The Games is being heralded as "an exciting opportunity for the JOC and Team Samsung's most promising young athletes to compete on the international stage, and demonstrate the Living Sport vision: for sport and healthy living to play a role in the lives of all Jordanians".

Samsung Electronics Levant President, Bumsuk Hong, added: "Sponsoring Team Samsung in the Asian Games affirms Samsung's commitment towards supporting youth and Jordanian talent, and highlighting Jordan's participation in the Asian Games.

"At Samsung we believe in supporting Jordanian athletes to participate and compete in global sporting events, and to have pride in Jordanian achievements by encouraging and supporting top athletes to help them inspire others with their passion.

"We wish Team Samsung the best of luck in the Games, representing the spirit of Jordan with their honourable sportsmanship."

The 17th edition of the Games officially open in the South Korean city on Friday (September 19) and conclude on Saturday October 4, although the football competition has already got underway, with Jordan's women drawing their opening match against Taiwan.

Approximately 20,000 participants, including 13,000 athletes and team officials from 45 National Olympic Committees, are due to take part in the quadrennial competition.
