Scheidies reclaimed his world title in the men's PT5 race finishing ahead of Ukrainian Vasyl Zakrevskyi and Serbia's Lazar Filipovic in a time of 1 hour 00.58 minutes to secure a third World Championship crown overall.

Schabort took advantage of the absence of Australian world champion Bill Chaffey through injury to take gold in the men's PT1 class crossing the line just under a minute clear of Great Britain's Phil Hogg.

Dutchman Geert Schipper completed the podium in third.

Meanwhile, Gretsch put in one of the most impressive performances of the day as she powered to the women's PT1 title in what was only her third Paratriathlon race.

She finished over five minutes clear of Briton Jane Egan and Italy's Rita Cuccuru.

Egan's team mates Lauren Steadman and Alison Patrick ensured there were two British winners in Edmonton.

Steadman led home a clean-sweep in the women's PT4 class ahead of Faye McClelland and Clare Cunningham, while Patrick took the honours in the PT5 race with yet another Briton on the podium in the form of silver medal winner Melissa Reid.

Germany matched Britain's gold medal haul with a win in both the men's and women's competitions.

Martin Schulz denied Stefan Daniel a win on home soil as he finished more than a minute clear of the Canadian in the men's PT4 race, with bronze going to American Chris Hammer.

Nora Hansel won the women's PT2 by a similar margin, with Hailey Danisewicz of the US and Frenchwoman Elise Marc trailing in her wake.

France did celebrate a World Championship gold when Lionel Hiffler powered to victory in the men's PT3 event beating off the challenge of the 12-strong field which was led by silver medallist Oliver Dreier of Austria and Italian Alessio Borgato in third.

The other men's title went to Russian Vasily Egorov, who got the better of Michele Ferrarin of Italy and France's Stephane Bahier in the PT2 category.

Despite the absence of star man Chaffey, Australia managed to top the podium in Edmonton thanks to Sally Pilbeam, who dominated the women's PT3 race, taking the win almost five minutes ahead of The Netherlands' Saskia Van Den Ouden, while Sarah Pearson picked up another medal for Britain in third.
