The triple Paralympic cycling champion, who also won two Nordic skiing gold medals at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games, powered to the world title in South Carolina in a time of 29 minutes, 19.70 seconds ahead of Dutchwomen Laura de Vann and Dorothee Vieth.

London 2012 silver medallist Hans-Peter Durst picked up Germany's other gold medal on the third day of racing in the time trial events.

He finished over a minute clear of the pack in the men's T2 with home favourite Ryan Boyle, a student at the nearby Furman University, taking silver and bronze going to Great Britain's David Stone.

After winning four world titles yesterday, the United States bagged two more today in the form of Will Groulx and Alicia Dana.

Groulx, who was part of the US team that won wheelchair rugby gold at Beijing 2008, claimed his first Para-cycling world title after overcoming the challenge of nearest competitor Luca Mazzone of Italy in the men's H2 race.

Double London 2012 champion Mark Rohan of Ireland had to settle for bronze.

Dana was victorious in the women's H3 event, beating Britain's Karen Darke by more than 16 seconds, with bronze going to Poland's Renata Kaluza.

"It felt really great," said the winner.

"I've been looking forward somewhat anxiously for this event for quite a while.

"It felt great to be able to get out there and race.

"It was a super tough race.

"It was hot, and it was humid, but I was prepared to suffer."
