Gwangju 2015 has signed a sponsorship agreement with Asiana Airlines that sees it become a global premium partner of next year's Summer Universiade.
As part of the deal, signed by Gwangju Mayor and Gwangju 2015 chairman Yoon Jang-hyun, Gwangju 2015 secretary general Kim Yoon-suk and Asiana Airlines President Kim Soo-cheon, the South Korean airline will provide air travel related services, such as tickets and baggage services, for the some 20,000 athletes from 170 countries participating in the Games.
The airline will also promote the Universiade in its aircrafts that travel on more than 100 routes around the world.
"I am very pleased and delighted that the global airline company, Asian Airlines is sponsoring the Gwangju Universiade," Yoon said.
"I hope the Gwangju Universiade, a global sports festival for the youth, will become an opportunity for the Asiana Airlines to advance even further."
The partnership means that the firm has the rights to use the Gwangju 2015 logo and the title of "official sponsor of the Gwangju Universiade", while it can advertise itself on athletes' uniforms and on signage in competition venues during the Games.
"As an official sponsor of the Gwangju Universiade, we will put forth our best effort to support the successful preparations and hosting of the Games," Kim said.
Asiana Airlines now joins the likes of IT company SK C&C, SK Telecom and KIA Motors as global premium partners.
The Gwangju 2015 Universiade is due to take place from July 3 to 14 next year.
