Spain's Gómez has already collected four wins meaning his score cannot improve much, but a top three finish on Saturday (August 23) will see his points jump slightly.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's Jonathan Brownlee, second in the rankings, must be at the top of his game if he is to defeat Gómez's compatriot Mario Mola, who trails him by only 15 points.

Although Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee, who secured gold medals in the men's race and mixed relay team at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, is out of the chase for a high finish in the Series this year, he can still steal points from other athletes that will affect their year-end ranking.

Portugal's João José Pereira and South African Richard Murray will be looking to better their challengers in the sprint but both will have to work on the swim if they want to make the podium in the Swedish capital.

Britain's Jodie Stimpson and Sarah Groff of the United States look set to headline the women's race in the absence of their respective compatriots Helen Jenkins and Gwen Jorgensen.

Stimpson, who claimed Commonwealth Games gold in the women's race and mixed team event at Glasgow 2014, will be aiming to edge closer to rankings leader Jorgensen with an outstanding performance in Stockholm.

She is likely, however, to not only face tough competition from Groff but also from Canadian Kirsten Sweetland, the Glasgow 2014 silver medallist.

Groff has put together a solid year so far, currently sitting in fifth in the rankings and will line up second this weekend, while Sweetland is just behind her in sixth trailing only 361 points.

Maaike Caelers of The Netherlands and Chilean Bárbara Riveros will also be ones to watch, as well as New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt, who has nearly twice as many podiums as any other athlete on the start list with 10.

The elite men's race will start at 12.45pm local time and the women's will get underway at 2.50pm.
