pGwangju Mayor Yoon Jang-hyun (left) and chairman of Gwangju City Council, Cho Young-pyo at the opening of the Promotional Centre ©Gwangju 2015Organisers of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade have opened up an official Promotional Centre located in the City Hall building of the South Korean city as the countdown to the Games continues with less than a year to go.

The 66 metre-squared Gwangju Universiade Promotional Centre is designed to promote the Games and increase awareness and interest among the city's inhabitants.

The centre is based on the Gwangju World Cup Stadium, according to Games organisers, and contains a number of areas such as the Universiade zone, Media zone, Experience zone and Photo zone.

It also includes state-of-the-art features, such as a three-dimensional media artwork using flexible LED strips, a UBI Interactive system using a touch-screen that allows SNS (social network services) messages to be sent in real-time, and a motion recognition systemised experience zone, allowing the visitors to engage in activities.

"With the Universiade less than a year from now, the Promotional Centre will become [a] medium for the citizens of Gwangju to take part in the Games," said Gwangju Mayor Yoon Jang-hyun,chairman of the Games Organising Committee.

"The Gwangju Universiade will ensure Gwangju [will] become a global city.

"We should work together to show the spirit, value, warmth, and oneness of Gwangju to the world in a year's time."

Yoon was speaking at a special ceremony marking the opening of the centre where he was joined by a number of city officials including chairman of the Gwangju City Council, Cho Young-pyo.

The facility will now remain open until Gwangju welcomes around 20,000 participants from 170 countries for next year's Games which is due to take place from July 3 to 14.
