Kyrah Scraders will be the Bermuda Flagbearer at the Nanjing 2014 Opening Ceremony ©BOABermuda has named runner Kyrah Scraders as the nation's Flagbearer for this evening's Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

The 17-year-old will represent her country in the 800 metres here as she looks to top the performance of her sport's idol David Rudisha after he took silver at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The youngster will lead out a seven-strong Bermuda team at the Ceremony, which will take place at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre.

"I am delighted to be chosen as it is a once in a lifetime thing to carry the Bermuda Flag at the Youth Olympics, my mother was really excited she sent me a message this morning, so I am very happy to do this," said Scaders.

Scarders started her track career at the age of seven with the Pacers Track Club and began to represent Bermuda at the international level at age 13.

She placed 12th in the 800 meters at the World Youth Championships in Ukraine in 2013.

Following the announcement, Bermuda Olympic Association President Judy Simmons congratulated Scrapers on the honour.

"She is certainly deserving and an excellent ambassador for Bermuda," she said.

"We wish her, and the entire team, the best of luck in competition; they have already done us proud."
