The Commonwealth and world silver medallist was pushed all the way in the 100 metres S8 butterfly by Ukraine's Kateryna Istomina, but touched home 1.4 seconds inside the previous world record set by the United States' Jessica Long in April, to record a time of 1min 08.20sec.

Istomina was less than a second behind in 1:09.09, while Denmark's rising star Amalie Vinther collected her second medal of the meet with bronze in 1:19.36.

Not content with one gold, Slater was back again in the evening session as she won her third title of the meet with victory in the women's SM8 200m individual medley.

Her time of 2:41.73 was well clear of Oleysa Vladykina in 2:46.36, despite the Russian leading with just 50m to go.

Denmark's Amalie Vinther hung on to take the bronze.

There was more medal success for Britain in the women's 100m S9 freestyle, as Stephanie Millward once again got the better of team mate Amy Marren to secure gold in 1:04.08.

The two Britons did well to chase down and pass Sarai Gascon, with the Spaniard eventually claiming bronze.

Andrew Mullen secured a final gold for Britain in today's action as he smashed the European record in the men's 50m S5 butterfly to win in a time of 37.66sec.

Beytullah Eroglu's silver was Turkey's first medal of the Championships, while Italy's Andrea Castagneto secured a much deserved bronze.

Italian swimmers have been having a good Championships inside Eindhoven's Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium, with two more golds today seeing them pass their medal count from the 2011 European Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Federico Morlacchi and Arjola Trimi both secured victories in the pool today to add gold numbers five and six for the Italian contingent, with 11 medals collected in total.

Morlacchi won a fierce men's 100m S9 freestyle to take back to back golds, following his success in Tuesday's 400m freestyle.

Spain's silver medallist Jose Mari led at the turn but could not sustain the pace, while Hungary's Tamas Sors finished strongly to move from sixth at the turn to third.

Trimi sealed a hat-trick of golds in Eindhoven with victory in the women's 200m S2 freestyle.

Dutch world record holder Lisette Teunissen picked up silver and Ukraine's Mariia Lafina the bronze.

A further two world records were broken in the pool today courtesy of Russia's five-time Paralympic champion Dmitrii Kokarev and Spain's Paralympic and world champion Michelle Alonso.

Kokarev took six seconds off his own three-month-old world record in the men's 200m S2 freestyle, to take his second title of the week in 4:22.06.

The 23-year-old beat Ukraine's Serhii Palamarchuk and Greece's Aristeidis Makromdimitris into silver and bronze respectively.

Alonso shaved over a second off her own women's 100m SB14 breaststroke world record to win gold in a time of 1:15.83.

The 20-year-old was challenged in the closing stages by The Netherlands' Magda Toeters, the fastest qualifier, but just had enough to seal the win.

Britain's Nicole Lough was third.
