The five-time team world champion overcame South Korean Olympian Park Kyoung-doo 15-12 to take what is his first individual world title.

The bronze medals went to Robeiri's compatriot Gauthier Grumier and Italian world number three Enrico Garozzo.

The event also saw the shock early exit of world number one and last year's world champion Nikolai Novosjolov of Estonia, who was defeated 8-15 by Finland's Niko Vuorinen, the number 64 seed of the tournament.

Elsewhere, second seeded Swiss European team champion Fabian Kauter had a tough bout against Spain's Pau Rosello and narrowly escaped a defeat with a 15-14 win.
