A number of fun runs across the country marked this year's Olympic Day in Oman ©McDonald's AsiaOman is to celebrate Olympic Day n December in future, instead of the traditional June date, to avoid the searingly hot conditions there at that time of the year.

The Oman Olympic Committee's (OOC) Sports for All Committee will announce the exact date later this year.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the OOC Board of Directors under Khalid al Zubair, its chairman.

The average maximum temperature in Oman in June is 40 degrees, while the minimum average temperature is 30 degrees, making it very hot and oppressive.

In contrast, the average temperatures in December are usually around 25 and 17 degrees.

It was the first time events had been held outside the capital Muscat.
