World champion Dimitrii Safronov led the way in the T35 100 metres contest as he smashed the previous world record, set by Algeria's Allel Boukhalfa at the 2011 World Championships, by almost four seconds to finish in 56.61sec.

His team mate Andrey Vdovin, also a double T37 world champion from the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships, continued the fine Russian form as he knocked 0.21 off the 400m T37 best which had been set at last year's World Championships in Lyon, France by fellow Russian Chermen Kobesov, to finish in 51.67.

In the field, Vladimir Sviridov added three centimetres to his own shot put F36 world record as he threw an impressive 14.73m.

Back on the track, van Rhijn, running just 24 hours after winning the 100m at the Great City Games in Manchester, Great Britain, ran the T43 400m in 1:00.78 to take 0.32 off her previous world record time, set last June in Berlin, Germany.

"It was pretty nice," said van Rhijin who won two world titles last year as well as Paralympic gold at London 2012.

"I really practised for the 400m over the winter season, however, you can only run a good 400m in competition which I haven't done a lot of yet.

"I'm happy with the world record but want to get it under 60 seconds now."

Belgium's Marieke Vervoort capped a memorable comeback weekend winning her T52 5,000m race in an unofficial world record of 14:47.55.

Her time was more than 50 seconds quicker than the previous best set in October 1999.

Great Britain's David Weir finally got the better of Swiss rival Marcel Hug in his home country as the Brit upstaged the world champion take seal the T54 400m.

"It's been a long time since I've won a 400m," said Weir.

"After Beijing I retired from it because I was so disappointed with the final," said Weir who won 400m silver in 2008.

"It's good to beat the guys who train for the 400m.

"I'm happy now as I've got a win but not in the distance I thought I'd win.

"I knew I had to wind it up and knew they'd catch me on the bends, but I knew I had a bit more drive down the home straight."

Hug reasserted his dominance in the 5,000m T54 as he held off a late attack from Weir to secure victory in 10:21.60.

The win makes it four out of five over Weir in Nottwil, having previously beaten his fiercest rival in the 800m, 1,500m and 10,000m.
