Paralympic medallist and world number six Scheffers made it four wins from five matches against Argentina's world number five Gustavo Fernandez to claim the men's singles title 75 62.

His victory saw Fernandez finishing as runner-up in an International Tennis Federation (ITF) 1 Series event for the third successive time this season.

World number three Lapthorne had suffered a family tragedy the previous day but battled on to defeat United States world number one and defending champion David Wagner 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(1) after a final set tie-break to win the quad singles event.

"That one's for my auntie who passed away yesterday," Lapthorne said.

"I know she was looking down on me today.

"I'm very pleased that I could win a tough final today."

Meanwhile, world number six Whiley earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over American former world number 10 Kaitlyn Verfuerth to retain the women's singles gold.

The previous day Whiley had paired up with Chile's Francisca Mardones to clinch a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Emmy Kaiser and Marianne Page of the United States to make it her second successive women's doubles title in Atlanta.

"I'm delighted to retain both my titles here in Atlanta," Whiley said.

"It was nice to play Kaitlyn and win like I did because the last time we played each other in 2012 I lost in three sets, so it's nice to see big improvements on that."
