Of the five stadiums, two will be large multi-purpose venues constructed in the nation's capital Yaoundé and the commercial capital of Douala.

The other three will be smaller venues built in other cities across the country.

The news comes after FIFA President Sepp Blatter met with Cameroon's President Paul Biya during a visit to the country, where he was part of the inauguration of a new Confederation of African Football (CAF) Football Centre of Excellence in the town of Mbankomo.

Blatter is said to be visiting other stadiums in Cameroon to assess conditions ahead of the 2019 edition of Africa's flagship football tournament.

Cameroon is one of six countries bidding to host the tournament with Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Zambia also in the running.

The hosts will be announced after the final vote at the CAF Executive Committee meeting, scheduled for September 2014.

The decision was postponed from early 2014 to grant each bidding country adequate time to receive an inspection from a CAF delegation.

Cameroon has hosted the event once before, in 1972, with the cities of Yaoundé and Douala the focal points of the tournament.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations will be the 32nd edition of the competition, with action expected to take place in January of that year.
