American business tycoon Donald Trump has landed the 2022 USPGA Championship at his course in Bedminster ©Getty Images Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, owned by American business tycoon Donald Trump, will host the United States Professional Golfers' Association (USPGA) Championship in 2022, it has been announced.

The deal between the USPGA and Trump Organisation will also see the 2017 Senior USPGA Championship staged at another Trump National Golf Club, in Potomac Falls, Virginia.

The 2022 PGA Championship is the first of any of the four men's major Championships confirmed to take place at one of Trump's courses since he began investing in golf 15 years ago with his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"Having the PGA is a very, very big deal," said the 67-year-old for New York City.

"So it's very important to me.

"It's a great honour for me and it's a tremendous honour for both of those clubs."

Trump, who made his money from real estate and is also a television celebrity in the United States, confirmed last week he had purchased Turnberry Golf Course in Aberdeen, bringing the number of golf resorts around the world owned by him to 17.

Turnberry is one of the courses used on the Open Championship roster and last staged golf's oldest major in 2009.

It is likely to stage the Open Championship again before 2022.

Speaking about the deal for the 2022 USPGA and 2017 Senior Championships today, USPGA President Ted Bishop said: "The PGA of America is excited to begin a new chapter of major championship history by taking two of our premier championships to venues that bear the Trump label of excellence.

"Mr Trump understands what it means to present both the finest venues in golf and an unforgettable experience for both our fans and the greatest players in the game.

"We look forward to having these exceptional sites identify a major champion in the PGA Championship and the Senior PGA Championship."

Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York hosted last year's USPGA Championship which was won by American Jason Duffner.

This year's tournament is due to take place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, from August 7 to 10.
