Kwang Sun Yoo has been appointed coach of the Indian national judo teams ©Getty ImagesApril 29 - South Korean judo coach Kwang Sun Yoo will train the Indian national judo team for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, it has been announced.

Following approval by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Yoo arrived in the country today to assist in the national judo camps running from April 25 to May 19.

The Judo Federation of India (JFI) said the men's and women's teams are training at SAI associated centres in Aurangabad and Bhopal respectively.

JFI general secretary Man Mohan Jaiswal said the team selected for the Commonwealth Games will go to Tashkent for a training programme, to be held from May 20 to June 6, with the national team of Uzbekistan.

Yoo is a former judoka who competed in the under 100 kilogram weight class for South Korea from 2002 to 2012.

In a successful career, Yoo tasted gold in two Super World Cup events in Paris in 2005 and Hamburg in 2006.

He also won gold in the 2006 Chinese Open in Qingdao before taking bronze the following year in both the Asian Championships in Kuwait City and World Team Championships in Beijing.

The Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 3, while the Asian Games are set to get underway in Incheon from September 19 to October 4.
