The two boxers squared-up at Glasgow's High Performance Centre on Saturday (April 26) and produced a fine showing which eventually saw Benson emerge victorious following a 2:1 split decision.

Following a review by the CGS Selection Panel, the 22-year-old will now join Delhi 2010 silver medallist Josh Taylor, Joe Ham, Ross Henderson, Charlie Flynn, Kieran Smith, Aqeel Ahmed, Reece McFadden, Scott Forrest and Stephen Lavelle who were all named to the Scottish boxing squad last week.

"The box-off to decide our 69kg Glasgow 2014 nominee was essential, and in line with our selection policy, because our nomination panel could not separate the two boxers in contention," said Boxing Scotland chairman Richard Thomas.

"Congratulations to Lewis whose addition to the team makes it a tremendous 10 boxers representing Scotland in Glasgow 2014."

Scotland has been one of the most successful boxing nations in Commonwealth Games history, taking home at least one medal from every Games since 1930.

Today's inclusion of Lewis brings the total Team Scotland numbers selected for Glasgow 2014 so far to 123 with an anticipated final team size in the region of 270 athletes.

"We are pleased to have finalised the boxing selections for Team Scotland with the addition of Lewis Benson," said Team Scotland Chef de Mission Jon Doig.

"Many congratulations to him on clearing the final hurdle and joining the rest of the team.

"We wish him all the very best as he heads off to Australia soon with the rest of the boxers to make their final preparations for the Games."

Glasgow 2014 opens on July 23 and runs until August 3.
