France won 13 medals in the individual events throughout the week, including six golds, and ended the Championships in Montpellier in style as they edge past the German team 3-2 in the final.

The French side had to battle from behind as well to turn the final in their favour as under 52 kilogram judoka Pénélope Bonna bowed out to Germany's Mareen Kraeh in the opening match.

Double European champion Autumn Pavia brought the tie level however, as she used her fine individual form to get the better of Romy Tarangul at under 57kg.

Clarisse Agbegnenou showed why she is a two-time European champion as she edged France into the lead with a decisive ippon victory over Miryam Roper at under 63kg.

Two-time world champion Gévrise Arises put the contest out of reach for the French as she sealed the host's victory with a win against Iljana Marzok.

There was consolation for the Germans as they pulled the tie back to within just one in the final encounter as Luise Malzahn toppled Emilie Andéol.

In the men's contest, Georgia sealed a third consecutive team title as they once again defeated the Russian's in the final.

The Georgians has beaten Russia in Budapest last year and could not be stopped here again in Montpellier as they rolled out a convincing 4-1 victory.

Wins for Nugzar Tatalashvili, Avtandil Chrikishvili, Varlam Liparteliani and Adam Okruashvili ensured the title would return to Georgia as only Shalva Kardava failed to overcome his Russian counterpart.

France sealed yet another medal on home soil in this men's team competition as they beat Slovenia to claim a bronze medal, whilst Germany overcame the Czech Republic to win the other.

In the women's contest it was Slovenia and Poland who won the bronze medals as they beat teams from Great Britain and Russia respectively.
