The three day event, due to be held from June 20 to June 22, is being hosted in cooperation with USA Track & Field Pacific Association, the College of San Mateo and the San Mateo County Silicon Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

It is expected to draw more than 150 of the top Paralympic athletes from the United States, and will mark the first time the competition will be held in California.

Among those expected to headline the Championships will be the 10-time Paralympic champion Tatyana McFadden, who also competed in cross country skiing at Sochi 2014, and five-time 2013 world champion Raymond Martin.

Also set to toe the line will be other world champions including Beijing 2008 4x100 metres relay winner Jerome Singleton, and two discus throwers, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 champion Jeremy Campbell and former cyclist Cassie Mitchell, who converted to athletics in time to win a gold medal at last year's International Paralympic Committee World Championships.

While there is not a World Championship event in 2014, athletes already have their sights on the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, where they will be looking to improve on their 2013 haul of 52 medals, including 17 gold.

"I think we're going to see a lot of great performances from our athletes, and it is going to be three great days of competition," said Cathy Sellers, high performance director for US Paralympics Track & Field.

"San Mateo has a wonderful facility, but what is really incredible is the amount of support we have in San Mateo.

"The local Organising Committee, USATF's Pacific Association and many others, are working diligently on the ground to ensure that our athletes have a first-rate event."

Similar enthusiasm was echoes by USA Track & Field's Pacific Association President Dave Shrock, as he described how the organisation are "excited to co-host this event with USOC".

"We are honoured to bring the first US Paralympics Track & Field National Championships to the West Coast," he added.

"These athletes have the drive, toughness and determination to excel, and we look forward to providing them with the best possible competitive opportunities."
