April 15 - Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) has been named the official Host Broadcaster for the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea.
The MoU was signed by the two co-chairmen of Gwangju 2015, Kang Un-tae and Chung Ui-hwa, and the vice-president of KBS, Ryu Hyun-soon.
"Together we will share the EPIC [eco-friendliness, peace, IT innovation, culture] vision of the Gwangju Universiade with the world and foster the dreams and hopes of youths," said Kang during the signing ceremony.
As host broadcaster, KBS will be in charge of operating the International Broadcasting Centre, which is the centre of the international signal production for all competitions at the Games as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
It will also be responsible for the support of all other national and international broadcasters at the Games.
"We will eagerly take part in encouraging participation from the public as well as making Gwangju known around the globe, contributing to increasing the city's brand value," added Hyun-soon.
The 2015 Gwangju Universiade will see more than 20,000 participants from 170 countries compete in the 12-day competition which is scheduled to take place from July 3 to 14.
