Following talks with the Kamchatka Territorial Development Corporation, the French association Cluster Montagne has signed a partnership to provide advice on the new project, which is aiming to build on the growing popularity of winter sports in the world's largest country.

"French specialists have made an offer for further co-operation", territorial sport chief Andrei Ivanov told the ITAR-TASS news agency.

"They are prepared to act as consultants in developing different projects to build modern mountain ski centres."

This followed a week-long regional tour in which experts visited several of the largest-operating mountain ski centers on the peninsula, including the resorts of Moroznaya Mount and Edelweiss, in which plans to construct a chairlift are due to start in 2015.

Cluster Montagne is one of Europe's leading companies designing mountain ski centres, developing and delivering mountain skiing equipment including lifts and ski track artificial snow-making systems.

They performed this role extensively in various mountain venues in the build-up to Sochi 2014, where the issue of artificial snow was particularly important due to concerns over warm weather ahead of he Games.

Plans are also underway to re-equip various other ski bases in Kamchatka.

This should include a first chairlift being built at Moroznaya Mount in Yelizovo district, as well as construction of a mountain skiing sport school at the highland ski base of Krasnaya Sopka in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

State authorities also plan to launch construction of mountain ski resorts on three other mountain ranges: on the dormant Sopka Petrovskaya volcano in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on Topolovy mountain ridge, and on the Avacha inactive volcano in Yelizovo district.
