Allianz has signed the first title sponsorship deal with the Women's Bundesliga ©Bongarts/Getty ImagesApril 12 - A five-year sponsorship deal between insurance giant Allianz and the Women's Bundesliga has been described as a "quantum leap" for the league.

The deal will see the 12-team competition renamed the Allianz Frauen Bundesliga until the end of the 2018-19 season - the first title sponsorship for the German league.

All match day jerseys will sport the Allianz logo on the sleeve as part of the deal, and advertising boards will also carry the company's logo during games.

German sports news agency SID reports Allianz will pay €1.2 million per season (£990,000/$1.6 million), with €100,000 (£82,000/$138,000) going to each club.

"A quantum leap has been realised for the Women's Bundesliga," said Siegfried Dietrich, general manager and investor of 1. FFC Frankfurt, who have won the league title seven times, most recently in 2008.

"The solidarity distribution will help to ensure that the 12 league branches can develop in lockstep."

Allianz, which has been a partner of Germany's women's national team since 2011 and also supports the Allianz Girls' Cup, will run social media campaigns as part of the five-year link-up with the Women's Bundesliga.
