Great Dame Sarah Storey claimed her third medal at the Bicentenary Velodrome in Aguascalientes as she powered her way to victory in the women's C1-C5 10 kilometres scratch race ahead of Argentina's Mariela Analia Delgado and third-placed Jennifer Schuble of the United States.

The 11-time Paralympic gold medallist took two laps on the field over the 40 laps and comfortably secured her second gold of the week after triumphing in yesterday's C5 pursuit and taking bronze in the 500m time-trial.

"This week's been fantastic - to go home from my first track worlds with two rainbow jerseys post-baby is just brilliant," said Dame Sarah, making her competitive international comeback following the birth of daughter Louisa last summer.

"I haven't ridden in a scratch race for quite a while, so to add that to the pursuit gold is just magic."

There was also a magical performance from men's sprint tandem duo Neil Fachie and pilot Pete Mitchell, who secured their second world title in Mexico and second world record on their way to victory.

Having produced the first sub one minute tandem kilo in history on day two of the Championships, the pair completed their 200m qualifying flying lap in 9.711sec to beat the record of 10.050 set by Britain's Anthony Kappes and Craig Maclean at London 2012.

Victories over Greece in the quarter-finals and then Australia's Paul Kennedy and Thomas Clarke in the semi-finals set up another meeting against Australian opposition for gold in the form of Kieran Modra and Jason Niblett.

A 2-0 victory gave Fachie and Mitchell a perfect end to their Championships, leaving the Australian duo with silver and Spain's Jose Villanueva Trinidad and Jose Porto Lareo with the bronze.

"It's been a really good week - a really tough week, as well - especially today in the sprint with the heat," said Fachie.

"But two gold medals and two world records - you can't ask for better than that."

Sophie Thornhill and pilot Rachel James mirrored the efforts of their team-mates in the women's tandem event.

Like Fachie and Mitchell, they had set a new tandem kilo record earlier in the week and added a world-best time in their flying 200m lap with a time of 10.854.

There was a slight delay in the confirmation of Thornhill and James' gold medal after silver medal winners Brandie O'Connor and Breanna Hargrave of Australia lodged a complaint about the type of handlebars used by the British team, but the result was upheld with New Zealand's Emma Foy and Laura Fairweather taking the bronze.

"I feel really emotional - there were a few issues at the end but it's done now," said Thornhill afterwards.

"Neither of us were well, so to think that we can race tired and ill, and still win is amazing."

The other gold medal on the day was claimed by Brazilian veteran Soelito Gohr, as the 41-year-impressed in taking the men's scratch world title well clear of Slovakia's Jozef Metelka and Alistair Donohoe, who bagged Australia's 17th medal of the Championships.
