April 9 - London 2012 gold medallists Hany Abdelhady of Egypt and Souhad Ghazouani of France failed to add further titles to their collection at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Championships in Dubai.
Jordanian world record holder Mutaz Zakria Aljuneidi was the man to deny Abdelhady and he added three kilograms to his own world mark in the process.
In fact, the Egyptian did not look comfortable from the start and eventually ended up finishing outside the podium positions in the men's under 88kg category.
Instead he had to watch as Aljuneidi lifted 229kg in the third round to break his record set in January and claim the title.
A superb lift of 225kg saw Iran's Seyedhamed Solhipourounji beat Mexican Jose de Jesus Castillo to the silver as he set an Americas record of 220kg to finish third.
Ghazouani also looked out of sorts at the Dubai Club for the Disabled as she could only manage a lift of 100kg, which was 50kg less than her own world record in the women's under 73kg class.
Nigeria's Ijeoma Iherobiem was the woman to take the mantle in Dubai as she took an early lead with her first effort of 119kg before registering an African record of 124kg with her second attempt.
Despite failing at 127kg in the third round, Iherobiem had done enough to secure the gold medal ahead of Egypt's Amany Al and Vera Muratov of Russia.
Rising star, 16-year-old Alina Kumeyko of Ukraine, took the junior world title with a lift of 91kg.
The final competition of the day saw London 2012 bronze medal winner Tzu-Hui Lin of Chinese Taipei take the women's under 79kg crown.
A lift of 129kg secured the gold medal and improved her own world record by one kilogram and enabled Tzu-Hui to finish well clear of second placed Geehan Hassan of Egypt, who recorded an African record with 120kg while an Americas record of 116kg was set by Brazilian Marcia Menezes on her way to bronze.
