April 8 - The LOC is due to hold elections later this month with Marwan Kamel Maghur due to stand down as secretary general ©LOCLibyan Olympic Committee (LOC) secretary general Marwan Kamel Maghur has confirmed to insidethegames he will step down from the role following elections at the end of this month.

Maghur has revealed he will not be running for re-election.

The Elective General Assembly of the LOC are due to take place on April 26, according to Maghur, who revealed that a new "road map" will be implemented following the elections.

"The Libyan Olympic Committee is implementing a road map with close collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in which it will have its election of a new Board at the end of this month, including the post of secretary general, and I have decided and announced that I will not run for another term," said Maghur, a member of the LOC Board since 1997.

"I will be supporting the new elected colleagues and will continue to contribute to the Olympic Movement and the promotion of the Olympic Values in Libya to the best of my ability.

"The secretary general in the Libyan Olympic Committee is elective and on a voluntary basis and not a paid day-to-day job."

Maghur added that a final list of candidates running for election for the various positions within the LOC had not yet been finalised.

Nouredine Krekshi, currently acting President of the LOC, taking over from Nabil Elalem after he was barred by the IOC's Integrity Commission in January 2013.

Elalem had taken charge of the LOC after its president, Mohammed Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi, fled to Algeria in 2011.

In July 2012, Elalem was kidnapped by gunmen in Libyan capital Tripoli but was released unharmed after being held for a week.

Interim leader Krekshi has previously indicated that he does not intend to stand for LOC elections this year.
