Mark Chay (left) and Cecilia Low will support athletes at this summer's Youth Olympic Games ©Singapore National Olympic CouncilMarch 2 - Olympic swimmer Mark Chay has been appointed Singapore's Chef de Mission for the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing this summer.

He will be joined by national sailor Cecilia Low, who has been appointed the Games' Young Ambassador by the International Olympic Committee and Singapore National Olympic Council

Chay, a former Sportsman of the Year who won 200 metres freestyle gold at the South-east Asian Games in 2001, and competed at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympics, said: "It is a great honour to lead Team Singapore at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

"This is a fantastic platform for athletes with Olympic aspirations to compete at.

"I hope they will immerse themselves in the spirit of the Games to do well for Singapore and enjoy the enriching Cultural and Education Programme at the Youth Olympics," added the 32-year-old.

Low, 23, has won a number of titles at regional and international level, including the 420 World Championship two years ago with former team-mate Rachel Lee.

She said: "I have always dreamed of attending the Olympic Games and it is a great privilege to be representing Singapore at my first Olympic Games as a Young Ambassador.

"I am looking forward to work with Mark and Team Singapore to create a memorable and enjoyable once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games."

The Games in Nanjing, China, are due to run from August 16 to 28.
