The British sprinter has not recovered sufficiently from the hamstring injury he suffered in winning the final at the Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham on Saturday (February 15) and British Athletics confirmed today he will not be competing in Poland.

Dasaolu heads this year's world rankings with 6.47sec, his time in the semi-finals at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena, where he recorded 6.50sec to win the final.

A scan showed a minor tear to his hamstring but he will resume training shortly in preparation for the outdoor season.

"Unfortunately it will keep me out of competing at the World Indoors," said Dasaolu, who last year won a silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg and became the fourth Briton to break through the 10-second barrier for the 100m when he clocked 9.91sec.

"I am disappointed but this is going to be a big year and I don't want to take any risk at all. I will now concentrate on being 100 per cent fit for the outdoor competitions."

Among the athletes the injury-prone Dasaolu beat in Birmingham were three of the athletes he might have been expected to meet in three weeks' time -  Jamaica's world bronze medallist Nesta Carter, Kim Collins, the former world 100m champion, and France's Jimmy Vicaut, who took gold ahead of him in Gothenburg last year.

The IAAF World Indoor Championships are due to be held from March 7 to 9.
