The three-day event, due to last until Sunday (February 16) will be held at the Centro de Natación M-86 and marks the 20th edition of the Diving Grand Prix since its inauguration in 1995.

The FINA Grand Prix is a series of annual diving competitions for the world's elite springboard and platform divers.

The focus of these events is to create a stage for elite divers to compete on a regular basis, and to expose the sport in both the host countries and the world at large.

Athletes compete in their respective events in order to accumulate points based on their finish with the winners of each Grand Prix meet earning 35 points, second earning 33, third 32 and so on.

Following the conclusion of the final event, the system will then determine the overall champion - or champions in the synchronised - of the FINA Diving Grand Prix.

After competing in Madrid, divers will then travel to Rostock, Germany, for the second leg from February 21 until 23 followed by Gatineau, Canada, from May 8 until 11 and San Juan Puerto Rico a week later.

The second half of the series sees athletes travel to Guanajuato, Mexico at the end of May; Bolzano, Italy in August; Singapore and, finally, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in October.
