Geijo cruised to victory in this 88 kilometre race - the longest of the Grand Prix's seven legs, finishing almost 20 minutes ahead of second place Silvie Rybarova of the Czech Republic – who finished first in the opening race of the Grand Prix last week - and just seven minutes behind the leading male swimmer.

In fact, overall, Geijo finished an impressive fifth out of both the men's and women's race, completing the course in 9 hours 27min 28sec.

Venezuela's Vicenia Navarro made her Grand Prix podium debut as she swam to third in 9:51:48.

The men's race was a much closer affair with Russia's Ivan Afanevich registering his first win of the season by edging past Syria's Mohammed Saleh in a time of 9:20:38.

Saleh had finished third in the race last year and moved a step closer to the all elusive gold medal in a time of 9:22:42.

Macedonian Tom Stefanovski built on his 11th place finish in Santa Fe last week, coming in just four minutes behind Saleh in third.

The swimmers will now have a short break from the Grand Prix before travelling to Manzanillo, Mexico on March 29 for the shortest leg of the competition.
