February 5 – Rapiscan Systems Limited will provide security screening services at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games ©Getty Images Security screening company Rapiscan Systems Limited has today been appointed the official security screening equipment provider for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Headquartered in Torrance, California, Rapiscan provides security equipment and services including X-ray machines and metal detection, and has UK offices in Surrey and Stoke-on-Trent.

During the Games, Rapiscan will provide and install all physical security screening equipment at Games venues and security scanning equipment at the Athletes' Village.

"Keeping athletes, spectators and everyone involved with the Games safe and secure is of paramount importance at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games," said Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive, Ty Speer.

"Rapiscan has a strong track record in providing security scanning solutions for major companies and worldwide sporting events such as Olympic Games.

"We're looking forward to working with Rapiscan to ensure a safe and secure environment during Glasgow 2014."

The firm operates in more than 100 countries and has previously provided security screening services at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
