Fort Kent hosted the event in 2005 and the Championships in Cable are set to take place in early 2015, although the IPC has confirmed to insidethegames that dates have yet to be finalised.

Cable has hosted international Nordic skiing events in recent years, including IPC World Cups in 2012 and 2013.

The Central Cross Country Ski Association (CXC) will be the host organiser for the Championships and the organisation's executive director, Yuriy Gusev, is excited to be welcoming the world's top skiers.

"It is a privilege for our organisation to host such an event and we are looking forward to welcoming the world, the athletes, coaches and officials to Wisconsin," he said.

"We had the great honour of hosting two IPC Paralympic Nordic Skiing World Cup events in 2012 and 2013, and we will do our absolute best to deliver the highest quality event in 2015 and to welcome the world's best here."

Athletes from more than 20 countries are expected to descend on Cable next year to compete in biathlon and cross country events following on from the 2013 World Championships which took place in Sollefteå, Sweden.

"We are thrilled that the 2015 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships will be taking place on domestic soil," said Julie O'Neill, team leader for sport performance at the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

"The Central Cross Country Ski Association has been a tremendous partner and host at previous competitions.

"We've seen tremendous growth and success in the sport much in part due to their great efforts."
