The Championships, scheduled for October 18, will be returning to Spanish soil for the second time in as many years following a thrilling "clash of the titans" race in Barcelona which saw Javier Gomez win last year's event.

"It is with pleasure that I welcome Mallorca as our half Distance European Championship in collaboration with Challenge," said Renato Bertrandi, President of the European Triathlon Union (ETU).

"Our goal is to provide our athletes, elites and age groups, with safe and quality races and Mallorca, along with Challenge Almere for the full distance, will deliver some unforgettable moments."

The announcement comes just months after the ETU named Challenge Almere-Amsterdam as the hosts of the 2014 European Long Distance Triathlon Championships, continuing a partnership between the two organisations which began in 2012.

"We cannot think of a better way to launch the inaugural Challenge Mallorca than by continuing our partnership with ETU," said Challenge Family chief executive Felix Walchshöfer.

"Mallorca is one the prime holiday spots in Europe and also one of the top training destinations for triathletes.

"Having Challenge Mallorca as part of ETU highlights the importance of the race and the location and will ensure the season finishes in style."

Challenge Paguera-Mallorca will consist of a 1.9 kilometre swim, followed by a 90km cycle and finally a 21km run.

It will be the first time the Challenge series travels to the Island of Mallorca and pulls the total number of events on the series to 23.
