George, first elected in 2000, was returned unopposed for another four-term at a general meeting in the capital St George's attended by 21 affiliates.

Under George's last term, Grenada won its first Olympic medal since the Caribbean country made its debut in the Games at Los Angeles 1984 thanks to Kirani James, who sprinted to victory in the 400 metres at London 2012.

It followed his win the previous year at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships in Daegu.

George, first vice-president of the Grenada Olympic Committee, hopes the success of James will help inspire other youngsters from the Island, a former British and French colony with a population of only 110,000, to make their mark on the international scene.

"In 2014 I challenge each coach to concentrate on taking at least three athletes to the next level," he said in his annual report.

"Our coaches are the ones to change potential into achievement."
