The current agreement, which has seen the event taking place at the 20,000-capacity Lanxess Arena in the cathedral city since 2010, had been due to expire next year, but the EHF executive committee decided during its meeting at the Women's World Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, to extend the deal until 2016.

"Cologne and the Lanxess Arena have offered us perfect conditions for the organisation of the Velux EHF FINAL4 right from the first event back in 2010," Jean Brihault, EHF President, said.

"I am sure that handball fans will share my delight at the decision to return to Cologne for a further two years."

Peter Vargo, managing director of event organisers EHF Marketing, explained that the extended partnership will allow them to enhance the success of the event still further in the future.

"Every year tens of thousands of fans travel to Cologne to witness the huge handball and entertainment event which the Velux EHF FINAL4 has become," he added.

"We are really looking forward to building on what we have already achieved and to provide the fans an even better event in the coming years."

A limited number of spectator tickets for the 2014 edition of the event, being held from May 31 to June 1, are still available at the official ticket shop here
