July 29 - Mexico's Olegario Vazquez Raña today extended his term as President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) at its Assembly in Munich today.



Vazquez Raña, who has held the post since 1980, was re-elected by acclamation, along with the ISSF secretary, Germany's Horst G. Schreiber, at its meeting in Munich on the eve of the 50th World Championships, which are due to start tomorrow.

Vazquez Raña, 74, represented Mexico in four consecutive Olympics, starting at Tokyo in 1964, received loud applause from the delegates of 115 countries upon his re-election.

He said: "I would like to thank you for your confidence and friendship.

"This is once again a very special day for me.

"Since many years I have been active in the International Shooting Sport Federation, first as an Olympian, and then as an officer.

"After all these years, your trust is the most important thing for me.

"I am here with my wife and my daughter, my family surrounds me, and I share with you the same respect as if you were part of my family.

"The Shooting Sport Federation is my family.

"I will keep on doing my best to promote our sport, and to keep up with your confidence."
