November 25 - PNZ has appointed Megan Munro as lead physio to work with the likes of Olympic gold medallist and five-time world Para-swimming champion Mary Fisher © Getty Images Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) has announced the appointment of Megan Munro as the lead physiotherapist for its Para-swimming programme.

The new part-time position will see Munro lead a team of medical and support staff in providing physical therapy services to New Zealand's top Para-swimmers in the run-up to regional and international events.

Munro has worked in Para-sports for a number of years, including in the UK where she was involved in athletics, adaptive rowing, seated volleyball, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

She was also a volunteer physiotherapist at both the London 2012 Paralympic and Olympic Games, and a physiotherapist at the 2012 Amputee Games in UK.

At the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Montreal earlier this year, Munro was the physiotherapist to the New Zealand Para-swimming team which won 12 gold medals and finished fourth in the overall medal standings, including five gold medals apiece for Mary Fisher and Sophie Pascoe.

She has also worked with injured military personnel who have lost limbs during conflict having spent time at the British Military Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Surrey.

"We are thrilled to have Megan on board in a permanent part time role that will offer high quality support to our Para-Swimmers," said PNZ high performance director Malcolm Humm.

"Her experience within Para-Sport is a great advantage as she understands athlete's needs and what it takes to succeed."
