The competition, due to be staged between April 25 abd 27, will feature the world's top ranked divers and will be the first international tournament to take place at the venue following the conclusion of work to transform it from Olympic to legacy mode.

It is the sixth time that British Swimming and UK Sport have secured the event in the United Kingdom.

UK Sport has revealed that a £100,000 ($160,000/€120,000) investment from its National Lottery backed Gold Event Series, which aims to bring up to 70 world class events to Britain by 2019, will go towards supporting the hosting of the World Series in London.

"The Diving World Series will be the first world class sporting event to be staged at the London Aquatics Centre since London 2012 and is another example of great legacy use of one of the iconic sporting venues from the Olympic and Paralympic Games," Simon Morton, UK Sport's director of major events, said.

"I am delighted that through the National Lottery funded Gold Event Series we continue to attract prestigious events to the UK.

"The combination of outstanding venues, technical know-how, passionate fans and thousands of experienced volunteers mean the UK is recognised as one of the best places in the world to stage international sport."

British Swimming chief executive David Sparkes explained that coming back to London will evoke many special memories for the world class divers expected to compete at the World Series.

"This event marks the beginning of the history of the pool within legacy mode and we wish the divers well as they start the next chapter in the life of this fabulous building," he added.

The Diving World Series will come to London after making stops in Beijing in China on March 14 until 16 and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on March 20 until 22.

It will then travel on to Moscow, Russia on May 2 until 4, Windsor, Canada, from May 30 to June 1 and Monterrey, Mexico on June 6 until 8.

"The [London] 2012 Games continue to change lives in the capital and I hope news that the world's diving elite will return to our amazing Aquatics Centre next year will inspire even more Londoners to take to the pool," London Mayor Boris Johnson said.

"An increase in sporting activity should be one of the great legacies of the Games and hosting the Diving World Series will contribute to that aim."
