Fergal Carruth has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Irish Amateur Boxing AssociationNovember 1 - Fergal Carruth, brother of 1992 Olympic champion Michael, has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA), it has been announced. 


The Dublin-born Carruth was appointed following an extensive interviewing process and replaces Don Stewart, who has retired. 

Carruth, a company secretary with IABA Limited, was himself a fine boxer. 

He is a former Irish Intermediate lightweight champion and Irish international.

Boxing has been Ireland's most successful sport in recent Olympics.

At London 2012, Irish boxers won four medals, including gold for Katie Taylor in the lightweight division as the women made their debut in the Games.
