Glasgow 2014, Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Life have revealed among the locations where the live zones will be created are Glasgow Green, Merchants Quay and the Kelvingrove Bandstand, currently undergoing a £2 million ($3.2 million/€2.4 million) major refurbishment for the Games.

"Glasgow knows how to put on a party and whether you're in town to watch a sporting event, or just want to sample the excitement, you won't have to go far to be part of the Games," said Archie Graham, executive member for the Commonwealth Games and chair of Glasgow Life.

"Glasgow has an outstanding track record in hosting events, such as the Merchant City Festival, Mela and World Pipe Band Championships - and we plan to build on that success by hosting the biggest party the city has ever seen."

Tying in with the Cultural 2014 programme, which aims to showcase the best of Scottish culture, alongside creative work from across all the Commonwealth countries, the zones will host a varied programme of activities around music, dance, theatre and comedy.

Organisers say families can also take part in interactive sports and games zones, emulating some of the athletes on show at Glasgow 2014.
