Argentina's Jose Luis Campo has been elected as the new President of the Americas Paralympic CommitteeOctober 18 - Argentine's Jose Luis Campo has been elected as new President of the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC), it was announced today.


Campo, who is an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing member, was elected ahead of Colombian Octavio Londoño by 14 votes to three at the 12th APC General Assembly in Buenos Aires

Londoño had been President of the APC since 2009 prior to this latest election.

This is the third time Campo, whose election coincided with his 56th birthday, has been elected as head of the APC after becoming the founding President in 1997.

He served two, four year terms during this time, being re-elected in 2001.

In his manifesto for election, Campo outlined the need to strengthen National Paralympic Committees in the region and build the Paralympic Movement from the grassroots through to the elite level and the Paralympic Games.

He called for more competitions in more countries and equal opportunities for impairment types.

His four year tenure as President will see him involved in three major events in the region, the Santiago de Chile 2014 Para South American Games, Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games and Rio 2016 Paralympic Game.

During the Assembly at Buenos Aires Carla Qualtrough, former head of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, was elected vice-president whilst Eladio Agramonte of the Dominican Republic and Mike Peters of the United States were voted in as Members at Large.
