The role will involve helping overseeing the transformation of the Olympic and Paralympic complex into a thriving and flexible centre for the whole community as well as maintain a world-class sporting venue in the heart of the Olympic Park.

The post, seeking a "General Manager like no other" is created by GLL, the charitable social enterprise chosen to be the legacy operator of the London Aquatics Centre.

They are looking, they claim, for a leader with a social conscience and a track record of relevant business success.

After hosting the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events during London 2012, the venue is scheduled to re-open in spring 2014 following major transformation works.

After hosting the London Olympic swimming competition, which included the swansong to the career of 18 time champion Michael Phelps, the London Aquatics Centre is being transformed from Olympic venue to Olympic legacy venue


Boasting two 50 metre swimming pools, a 25m diving pool and a seating capacity of 2,500 the venue will remain a world class sporting facility aiming to host events such as the 2016 European Swimming Championships.

However it will also going to fulfill a range of other obligations aimed at the local community including, for example, dedicated dry diving facilities, a health and fitness offer, meeting room availability and a cafe.

The chosen manager will work closely with the London Legacy Development Corporation to make sure the venue operates as a successful business which does indeed benefit the whole local community.

It is the first in what will be a series of positions provided at the facility by GLL who are committed to ensuring that 70 per cent of the new workforce opportunities will be offered to local people.

Other posts will include a Lifeguard Academy at the Aquatics Centre, in addition to opportunities for apprenticeships, work experience and pre-employment training.
