Sochi 2014 have unveiled the competition schedule for the Winter ParalympicsOctober 14 - A competition schedule for next year's Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi has been announced encompassing over 1,650 athletes and team members from 45 different countries.


The Games are due begin with the Opening Ceremony on March 7 and will continue until March 16.

A record-breaking 72 sets of medals will be contested in five different sports including cross-country skiing, biathlon, ice sledge hockey, wheelchair curling and Alpine skiing.

Para snowboard will also make its debut in Sochi.

The programme has been approved by International Sports Federations, the International Paralympic Committee and the Olympic Broadcasting Service, but some minor alterations may still be made.

The first medals will be won on Saturday March 8 in downhill alpine skiing and in biathlon where events were held over 7.5 kilometres for men and 6km for women will be held in sitting, standing and visually impaired classes.

The next few days will be littered by more finals in alpine and cross-country skiing as well as biathlon while preliminary events will be held in other disciplines.

The second and final weekend will then see the climax of the skiing and snowboarding events as well as the medal rounds in ice sledge hockey and wheelchair curling.

Ticket sales for Russian citizens and formerly resident foreign nationals went on sale late last month and a second sale stage has now begun.
