World Squash Federation introduces new player registration system October 11 - The World Squash Federation (WSF) has launched a new worldwide player registration that will require players competing internationally to have a Squash Player Identification Number (SPIN).

As of January 1, 2014, all players wishing to compete in WSF World Individual and Team Championships, Regional Championships, and World Junior events at all age levels, will need to have a SPIN.

The system has been introduced in an attempt to eliminate problems such as player name confusion and duplications in the registration phase of events.

WSF Championship Committee chairman, Hugo Hannes welcomed the introduction of the new system.

"I am delighted that SPIN will be introduced worldwide next year with the support of our regions and member nations," he said.

"It will ensure ease and accuracy of entries as well as seamlessly link each phase of championships from entry through to seeding, draw and results.

"The coordination of the WSF World Junior Circuit and general control mechanisms commend it too."

The system enables national federations to enter their players for events online using their SPIN's.

Those individual's competing in events where they enter themselves, such as the Masters Championship, can do so using their identification number.

An initial £10 ($16/€12) fee will be incurred by all players registering for a SPIN, half of which is to be split equally between all five regional federations.
