September 27 - Flooring company Gerflor will supply the competition mats for the London Grand PrixInternational vinyl flooring manufacturer Gerflor has been announced by Badminton England as the official floor supplier to the London Grand Prix taking place in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Gerflor will provide its internationally renowned Taraflex sports flooring for the prestigious event at the Copper Box Arena running from next Tuesday (October 1) until the following Sunday (October 6), which forms part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grand Prix Gold event series and has a minimum prize fund of £74,000 ($120,000/€89,000).

Taraflex competition mats are approved by both the BWF and Badminton England and the surface that will be used for the inaugural Grand Prix event in London, being run in partnership with Adidas, has been specifically developed for badminton players offering energy feedback and force reduction allowing for greater foot traction.

More than 3,000 fixtures at international level are played on Taraflex every year and sports which have benefited from the flooring include badminton, basketball, netball, volleyball, handball, hockey and table tennis.

"We are delighted to have secured Gerflor as an official supplier to our inaugural London Grand Prix event," said head of major events and competitions at Badminton England, Nicola Moloney.

"It is paramount that the competition playing surfaces are of the highest quality, which the Taraflex flooring offers."

Some of the world's top players are expected to be present in London over the six days of competition that will see players compete in men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles, as well as mixed doubles events, and along with the substantial prize money there are also vital world ranking points on offer.

"Gerflor are delighted to be an official sponsor of Badminton England's Grand Prix providing surfaces for the warm up and competition areas," said Taraflex sport manager, Darren Wood.

"The event is billed as one of the biggest international sporting events of 2013 and the draw of players, along with a fantastic venue, will most certainly live up to expectations."
